The Gleneagles Hotel

This hotel does gain good reviews on other forums, but for us did not deliver on expectations.  For the price, the ratings and the accolades we expected much more.

We have to say, we got the feeling the hotel was resting on its reputation and that the rooms were in need of some minor renovations/spruce up.  New carpet wouldn't go a miss, ours was full of stains and the slippers looked as if they had already been worn.

The bathroom was quite nice and very spacious, although we were not not a big fan of large plants that dominated the space.  The toiletries were decent and the towels were fluffy and thick.

Good hotel for those travelling with children, which meant they were everywhere - a slight put off for us

Room service at the property was just ok, menu was great but the flavours and temperature of the food was less than perfect and we were definitely a little disappointed.

The downfalls we found in this property are the things that make us weary of staying in older hotels - although other older hotels we have visited and reviewed have surprised and impressed us, unfortunately, on the whole, The Gleneagles did not.

The grounds are amazing. We visited in Winter and it was snowing which made the grounds look magical. Set in its own 850-acre estate, beautiful scenery, complete with Golf Club and championship course it was definitely impressing on the drive up to check in and it provided space for nice leisurely walks before dinner and after breakfast.

The rooms where comfortable, location was lovely, but this isn't the hotel for us
